Zohoplanner.com is an online organizer application that is a part of the Zoho suite of productivity applications. The planner is built around a page format, with the ability to add to-do lists, appointment, notes, files and attachments to pages. Each page has a title and description and shows a summary of items that have been added to the page. Clicking on an item will expand the view to the full item. The planner has a Home Page, and other pages can be accessed using a convenient menu on the left hand side of the page.
There is also a top menu bar which allows users to add an appointment, to-do list, etc. Pages can be shared with other users or made public, which allows anyone to view them. Reminders can be set for appointments and to-do list items. Appointments have a date and time, and to-do list items have a due date. Tags can also be attached to pages, and the user can search for pages by tag. The application is entirely browser-based, and the user can switch to other Zoho applications using the top menu bar. The planner application is still in beta testing, which is open to anyone. Each page in the planner has a unique email address, and the user can email content to the page from anywhere. The Zohoplanner.com site was launched in 2009 and has undergone moderate growth since launch. It is the newest member of the Zoho suite of office applications, and is still in beta testing.
Competition to Zohoplanner.com comes from desktop applications such as Microsoft Outlook and web applications such as Google Calendar. Both of these applications are currently more sophisticated than Zohoplanner, but Zohoplanner is the easiest to use. The user interface for Zohoplanner is very intuitive and requires almost no learning curve to begin use. Whenever the application is linked to the other Zoho applications, usage should increase considerably, as the Zoho suite is very popular overall.
The Zohoplanner.com site has a very clean and uncluttered look and feel. Almost no graphics are used on pages, so load times are instantaneous. The application is quite responsive as well. All of the features worked without glitches, and the application is very easy to use. Navigation is intuitive, with convenient top and left-hand menu bars. There is no advertising displayed on the Zohoplanner.com site.
Registration to the Zohoplanner.com site is currently free and is required to use the application. The registration process asks for username, email address and password. Validation of the email address is required. The user also has the option of logging in using their Google, Google Apps, Yahoo or Facebook Ids.
Zohoplanner.com is currently free, but expect it to be a part of the paid subscription required by other Zoho applications once beta testing is completed.
Zohoplanner.com is recommended to anyone who needs a good online organizer application. While not quite as sophisticated as Microsoft Outlook or Google Calendar, it is much easier to use and quite capable. The minimalist look and feel of the site makes it very responsive, a common feature among the Zoho apps.
